An eightfold pattern from the fountain floor in Cairo. This design incorporates two distinct eight-pointed stars. The interior of the stars features a motif reminiscent of the compass rose used to indicate the cardinal directions in classical cartography.

This motif, along with its containing star, is also commonly found in traditional quilt-making designs across Europe and North America.
